Turning ageism on its age

I’ve been on a couple of interviews now and they have been most enlightening. Every one has been hosted by individuals decades younger and considerably less experienced. There have been some awkward moments and some engaging ones. Who knew that I could charm these young folks into seriously considering me to be a part of their team, working under their direction?

I could go on, but you get the idea of what I’ve been bombarded with since I informed some of the people in my small world about my impending job loss.

Building strong bones now for your future

My mom tripped on an area rug a few weeks ago, causing her to fall and fracture her pelvis and hip.  According to her physician, it was the “best” hip fracture to have; she only needed three rods in her hip instead of a hip replacement.  In the past, she’s also had multiple compression fractures in her spine. Why so many bone breaks? Just like her mother before her, my mom suffers from osteoporosis. There are ways to help reduce your risk.

Every day is Mother’s Day!

This year celebrates 100 years since Anna Jarvis was successful in her movement to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States. We were raised with our father telling us that “every day is Mother’s Day!"  He was instilling in us the importance of appreciating a stay-at-home mom raising eight daughters and five sons. He was teaching us to say thank you.

Finding your way back after a later-in-life job loss

Anyone ever heard something like this before? Mary Calhoun found herself in a situation that many older workers have experienced. For her, putting on a positive attitude was key for moving forward.
